Hurtigruten partners with Queen Sonja Print Award: Young artists and royal art to decorate hybrid ships

When the world’s first hybrid powered expedition ship embarks on her maiden voyage, every piece of art on board will be handpicked by HM Queen Sonja of Norway’s art foundation - the Queen Sonja Print Award. Almost 600 unique works of art by young Norwegian artists, as well as previous award winners and works of art by HM Queen Sonja herself will be featured throughout MS Roald Amundsen.

Hurtigruten to build up to four new explorer vessels

Norwegian explorer cruise line Hurtigruten and the shipyard Kleven signs a letter of intent for the construction of up to four new explorer ships. The first vessel is to be completed the summer of 2018.

After a successful financial turnaround over the recent years, Norwegian explorer cruise line Hurtigruten now upgrades the vessels sailing the Norwegian coast, as well as their new expedition ship MS Spitsbergen. The vessels MS Kong Harald and MS Polarlys are now as the first two ships totally renewed. In this article you can see the brand new New Arctic Interior aboard MS Polarlys.

Hurtigruten modify ships for shore power

World leader in Explorer travel Hurtigruten plans to modify several vessels for shore power already during first half of 2016. The initiative follows a stronger environmental focus in the Norwegian company, operating a fleet of 13 explorer vessels. The shore power installation will significantly reduce fuel consumption and air pollution during port calls.
